  • Rocking Chair #8

Rocking Chair #8 is an outtake from a larger body of work exploring flat planes and layered materials. After some early experimentation, it became apparent that the side planes needed to be opened up, both to reduce the weight of the chair and activate the side planes. This resulted in a series of sketches depicting complex openings. These were abandoned in favor of a simple circle, as the complex openings had a tendency to imbue the chair with a narrative. Likewise, a square opening was rejected as the result suggested Arts & Crafts and therefore a style. Chicago, IL (2006-2008)
